Road Safety Update

   3rd November 2010

 Dear Parents & Caregivers,

RE:     Travel Access

Many thanks to those of you who responded to the recent survey on travel access to school.  It is very helpful to hear your views on issues such as this as it helps inform our decisions. We had a high number of replies which makes the information more meaningful.  The responses have allowed us to make several decisions already and will help guide us in others.

  1. The majority of respondents agreed with the current cycle policy which states the children under year 5 may not ride a bike to school because of the situation of the school. This policy will therefore remain.

  1.  A large majority of respondents felt that the City Council should put curbing extensions at the McCracken Ave patrolled area, and it is our understanding that the Council is attending to this.

  1. Further safety precautions will be used at the dental clinic entrance.  All children not being met by a parent should use the Kea Crossing rather than the dental clinic entrance.

  1. A clear majority of respondents felt that all parents should be able to use the front car park and entrance rather than designated drop areas for different parts of the school so this will continue to be the case.

  1. There will be no change in the timing of the school day as there was no clear mandate for this to occur.

We will continue to work on other aspects of the travel plan, particularly how we might resource things such as supervision of the front car park.
