Sport and Physical Activities

At Hillcrest Normal we provide a range of extra sporting opportunities for any child to be a part of. The success of our sports programme relies greatly on the participation of many parents. Below are some of the sports we provide and who to contact.

Swimming - The School runs a comprehensive swimming programme but for swimmers who would like to compete we have a very strong swimming club based out of our school pool. Runs in Terms 1 and 4. Rugby - Our School has a proud tradition of a strong 10-a-side rugby team run by Mr Andrew Peart that competes in tournaments as well as a competition that runs on Tuesday afternoons. Most of the  players also play club rugby for local clubs. Runs in Term 2 and 3. Netball - Our school has netball teams from Years 3-6. Organised by Mrs Lynette Townsend and various coaches the teams are provided with the opportunity to play after school or in the weekend depending on their grade. Runs in Term 2 and 3

Cricket - Our school competes in either the after school Friday competitions or the hardball Saturday competition. This is run by parents although organised by Mr Andrew Peart. Terms 1 and 4. You can find details at his website about draws, cancellations and rules http://www.hjca.org.nz/

Basketball - Run only by demand and with parental support. Term 4

Soccer - Hillcrest Normal School has many soccer players at our school. We have entered competitions but mostly encourage our players to play for the clubs in the Saturday competition. Touch - We have established a strong touch programme. The competition is run on Tuesday or Thursday evenings depending on the teams. Parental help is always needed to make sure teams are run smoothly. Term 4

Running – We provide opportunities for those who are talented runners to participate in many out of school competitions including, interschool cross country, sprint meets at Porritt Stadium, Round the bridges fun run etc. These are run by different teachers and parents but you can contact Andrew Peart for more information.
