NAG 1:  Curriculum

DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Trustee who is a full member of the board will carry out this function. The Staff Trustee must be mindful of the interests of teaching and support staff with whom they are most closely involved, and at the direction of the board, will be expected to bring to board discussions, the points of view of those people, as well as their own expertise and experience, however it is their obligation to serve the broader interests of the school and its students.

 

TASKS, ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨         Attend all meetings of the board, and meetings at which the board is represented.

¨         Work within broad policy and legislative and contractual obligations.

¨         Support the board and their contribution to school operations.

¨         Support the principal in actioning board delegations.

¨         At the direction of the board, represent staff opinion and concerns on matters of employment to the board.

¨         Keep the principal informed of staff opinions and concerns related to the curriculum and day-to-day operations of the school. At the direction of the board, the Staff Trustee must fully, fairly and accurately report the views of staff on agenda items to the board.

¨         Report to staff on board meetings by placing a copy of the minutes of each meeting on the Staff Notice Board.

¨         Contribute to the report on the School Curriculum at meetings of the board. Use a book system for staff to report what they have been doing.

¨         Assist with school review on the school curriculum and in conjunction with others, provide a written report to the board on the outcome of such reviews.

¨         To work with the principal to ensure the School Charter is annually reviewed, revised, and copies sent to the Ministry of Education in a timely manner.

¨         To work with the principal to ensure the School Charter has appropriate targets relating to the National education standards to raise student achievement.

 

ANNUAL TIMETABLE:

¨         Attend and contribute to reports at meetings of the board.

¨         Facilitate or assist with school curriculum reviews and reporting back to the board on the outcomes of such reviews.

 

DELEGATED AUTHORITIES:

 

1.      In consultation and in conjunction with the principal place articles in school newsletters that represent the outcomes of school curriculum reviews.
