No No Birds

The "No No Bird" had a favourite word, "No!" He learnt a lesson that helped him change this word to "Yes." In room 4 we have talked about the importance of saying "yes" to new challenges and how this can have positive outcomes if you are prepared to try new things. We painted our own "No No Birds" and used coloured card and feathers to embellish them. We completed our birds in stages and focused on layering to add depth and texture to our work.

We use these numbers to help us write our numerals the right way. We look at the tens frames to quickly say how many we have got.

The Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round all over New Zealand. We pastelled native creatures to go on our bus. Each week we change who is having a ride and make up new maths number stories to go with it.

Poppies

We have been doing some art work themed around the poppy flower!!! First we did some observational drawings of a vase of poppies and looked at different ways we could use our sketching pencils. Next we used some of these drawings to make a painting of the flower heads and buds. We used yellow, orange, red and green paint and worked hard to capture the brilliance and character of these flowers. Finally we used pastel to highlight details in our paintings. We also wrote poems about our poppies and concentrated on using descriptive language to paint a picture of our poppies in words.

Self Portraits

We worked really hard to create these pastel portraits of ourselves. We studied all the details on our faces and looked at the special characteristics that make us unique and special. We have tried hard to put facial features in the right place and to use colours that are true to life.
