ESOL

Our school values the diversity of cultures within the school. There are children representing over 30 nationalities at Hillcrest. Many of these children have English as their second language and are well supported.

ESOL Staff

Mrs Julie Gray is responsible for the Management of International and ESOL Students. This responsibility involves applying for Ministry funding, ensuring the children are making progress and that they are happy and settled in their school environment.

Mrs Helen Alley teaches English  to the International Students and some ESOL children who need extra support with their English. Children who work with Helen receive 3 lessons a week in small groups.

We enjoy helping new ESOL children and their families settle into their new environment. If you need someone to talk to, we will be in the ESOL office on Wednesday mornings from 8.30 a.m until 9.00 a.m.

There are  4 Teacher Aids in the school who are timetabled to work in the classrooms to support the ESOL children. They are Mrs Goodwin, Mrs Gregory, Mrs Hynes and Mrs Tritt.
